Congratulations to Jacob Weinman
Winner of the 2013 Danny H. Freeman Youth Philanthropy Award
Tampa Jewish Family Services awards the Danny H. Freeman Youth Philanthropy Fund award to one teenager (age 12-17), regardless of religious affiliation, who has made an impact toward one or more individuals with special needs. This endowment fund is a partnership between Danny Freeman and Tampa Jewish Family Services. The winner is awarded $200 and asked to contribute at least one-half of their award to a local charity of their choice. A 200 word description about how the nominee has made an impact is required with the application. Applicants may also nominate themselves.
Jacob Weinman, age 13, was selected for the 2013 Danny H. Freeman Youth Philanthropy Award for his impressive work to raise awareness and funding to help individuals living with autism in his community. He was presented the award by TJFS CEO Michael Barnett and Clinical Director Lydia Abrams on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the JCC Campus in Tampa.
Weinman, along with his mother Jennifer, contacted the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at the University of South Florida (CARD) about coordinating a Lego event – called Brickmania – to benefit CARD. The event is scheduled for March 2014 at Carrollwood Day School, where Weinman is entering the eighth grade. Among Weinman’s activities to raise awareness about the Brickmania event, and autism, he has shared the purpose of the Legos event with his friends and classmates, hosted a Lego building table at CARD’s recent Fiesta by the Bay event for children with autism, and spoke about his effort with attendees at his Bar Mitzvah earlier this year. Weinman is an impressive young man who has embraced philanthropy at a young age and works hard to help those in his community.
Weinman has generously donated 100% of his $200 award to CARD in an effort to help individuals living with autism. Tampa Jewish Family Services wishes to congratulate Weinman on receiving the 2013 Danny H. Freeman Youth Philanthropy Award.
