Welcome to our agency’s first blog post. I am pleased to kick-off our new weekly blog with fantastic news. Yesterday, Tampa Jewish Family Services (TJFS) won first place in the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2014 Nonprofit of the Year Awards for the category of Family Services.
TJFS competed against other prestigious and worthy social services organizations (Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay, Solita’s House, and Youth and Family Alternatives), and was ultimately selected for the quality of services and longevity of support of the Tampa Bay area community. For more than 60 years, TJFS has fulfilled its mission of helping individuals and families in need by providing food, counseling, financial assistance and educational programs.
The Tampa Bay Business Journal’s award process recognized that TJFS is an agency dedicated to providing community programs managed with fiscal responsibility. In the past 12 months, Tampa Jewish Family Services helped more than 12,000 individuals with programs, services and referrals. The agency serves people of all faiths, answers every single phone call during business hours and never turns anyone away without providing help. It’s a unique business model I’m personally very proud of. I’m also pleased that TJFS has been recognized for the past two years by the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s Nonprofit of the Year Awards. In 2013, TJFS was selected as a finalist in the same category – Family Services. This year’s awards ceremony was attended by more than 400 people and 42 Tampa Bay area nonprofit organizations, as well as several Board members, volunteers and supporters who joined the ceremony to celebrate the nomination – and win.
