It is hard to believe that summer is right around the corner. It seems like yesterday that I took my children back-to-school shopping! Besides providing an education for our children, schools also help families that are facing hardships. Schools provide free-or-reduced breakfasts and lunches, transportation, and before-and-after school day care. For many, summer brings stress and additional hardships. Food shopping expenses increase. Utility bills increase because apartments or homes are occupied all day. The cost of day care or camp stretches an existing tight budget.
Fortunately, Hillsborough County Parks and Recreations offer camps at reduced rates, and Tampa Jewish Family Services assists families with those costs. We also increase food distribution during the summer months. We add healthy, kid-friendly foods anticipating the summer need. Our financial assistance program provides assistance with utility bills and rent/mortgage.
You can help as well. When doing your food shopping take advantage of the buy one, get one free (bogo) items and donate one to our food bank. Go to tjfs.org and make a financial donation. Your generous donation will be used to assist in the cost of camp, daycare, or food. With your help, Tampa Jewish Family Services is here to help!
